Born in 1965 in Taif, Saudi Arabia, Prof. Dr. Al-Awni earned his Ph.D. in Islamic Sharia from Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca in 2001 and earned a professorship in Islamic Sharia, specializing in the Quran and Sunnah, in 2013. He was a member of the Saudi Shura Council for two terms, from 2005 to 2013, and has been a faculty member at the College of Da’wa and Fundamentals of Religion at Umm Al-Qura University from 1990 until his retirement. He is also a member of the Academy of the Arabic Language on the Web and has been active in media, participating in various programs and interviews. He is the author of over fifty books and publications.
