Dr. Anwar Ibrahim was born on August 10, 1947, in Penang, Malaysia. He pursued sociology at the University of Malaya and was chosen to represent Malaysian youth at the United Nations General Assembly. He was subsequently appointed in 1973 to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Group of Young Advisors. Dr. Anwar is also a co-founder of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) in the United States. He also served as an advisor at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) from 1983 to 1988. His political career in Malaysia includes serving as Minister of Youth and Sports, Agriculture, and Education, followed by roles as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Dr. Anwar assumed office as the Prime Minister of Malaysia following the 2022 elections.
