His Eminence Professor Dr. Hassan El-Shafei was born in 1930 in Beni Suef, Egypt. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language and Islamic Sciences from Dar Al-Ulum College at Cairo University in 1963, followed by an advanced degree in Islamic Creed and Philosophy from the Faculty of Theology at Al-Azhar University in the same year. He also obtained a Ph.D. in Islamic Philosophy from the University of London in 1977. Throughout his career, he has held various academic and administrative roles at Dar Al-Ulum College, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and other Arab and Islamic universities. He served on the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, chaired the Arabic Language Academy from 2012 to 2020, and was a member of the Islamic Research Academy, the Council of Senior Scholars, and the Muslim Council of Elders.
