Advisor to His Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, for 8 years, Member of the Interfaith Dialogue Center at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Member of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Center for Peaceful Coexistence, Co-Chair of Religions for Peace, Secretary General of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, Secretary General of the Higher Committee for Human Fraternity for 4 years, and participated in preparing the historic Human Fraternity Document signed by His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, in Abu Dhabi in 2019, was a key member of the Constituent Assembly tasked with drafting Egypt’s new constitution in 2013, and participated in preparing Al-Azhar documents. He also participated in the official announcement of the “We Are All Brothers” document signed by Pope Francis in 2020. He received many honors and medals in recognition of his efforts in spreading the values ​​of tolerance and coexistence, most notably the Papal Knighthood Medal “Commander with the Star of the Order of Pius IX” granted to him by His Holiness Pope Francis in honor of his efforts in spreading the culture of tolerance and interfaith dialogue. He is the first Arab Muslim to be awarded this high medal by the head of the Catholic Church. He documented his testimony on the journey of the Human Fraternity Document in his book entitled “The Imam, the Pope, and the Difficult Road: Testimony to the Birth of the Human Fraternity Document,” which was presented to him by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar. The book was published in seven languages.
